Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mohamed ElBaradei, the former director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), described U.S. President Donald Trump — who is conducting a war against Iran — as “a madman” and appealed to the international community to stop him.

AFP reported that ElBaradei, an Egyptian, shared a social media post by President Trump on X (formerly Twitter) on April 4 (local time) and urged Gulf states to take every possible measure to stop “this madman” before he turns the region into a fireball.

In another post, ElBaradei asked the United Nations, the European Union (EU), French President Emmanuel Macron, and the foreign ministries of China and Russia, “Is there really no way to stop this madness?”

ElBaradei, now 83, served as IAEA director general from 1997 to 2009 and led numerous major negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program during his tenure. He and the IAEA were jointly awarded the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize for efforts to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
