[Sports Today reporter Kim Tae-hyung] Actor Park Sung-woong appeared as a witness in the perjury trial of former 1st Marine Division commander Im Seong-geun.
Park appeared on the afternoon of the 8th as a witness at the third hearing in Im’s perjury case under the law governing testimony to the National Assembly, held before the 22nd Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court.
The court had designated Park as a witness and planned to question him on the 25th of last month, but he submitted a notice of nonattendance in advance citing scheduling conflicts. The court then reset the date and summoned him again for this hearing.
Last September, Park appeared for questioning by the special counsel and testified that in 2022 he had dined in Gangnam, Seoul, with Lee Jong-ho, the former CEO of Black Pearl Invest, former division commander Im, and others.
Kim Keon Hee Lee Jong-ho, a former CEO widely regarded as a close aide to Kim Keon-hee, is accused of allegedly lobbying to clear former division commander Im, who faced charges of professional negligence resulting in death in the 2023 case involving the death of Marine Corporal Chae.
Im has denied ever meeting Lee Jong-ho, saying, \”I have never met him. If we never met, how could I have met that actor?\” Park’s testimony, however, contradicted Im’s denial and has been highlighted as a key piece of evidence.
The special counsel concluded Im’s testimony was false and indicted him on perjury charges in November last year.
