Jeong Myeong‑si, the People Power Party’s preliminary candidate for Gijang County mayor, opened his campaign office on the 11th and formally launched his bid.

At the opening, Jeong said, “For more than 30 years as a police officer, I have protected residents’ safety. Now, as mayor of Gijang County, I will be responsible for residents’ safety and well‑being, and for the region’s growth.”

He outlined a platform focused on expanding transportation networks, attracting high‑tech industries, revitalizing tourism, and improving residents’ quality of life.

Jeong said he plans to position Gijang as a hub for future industries by attracting small modular reactors (SMRs), data centers, and companies in artificial intelligence (AI) and power semiconductors.

He offered area‑specific development strategies for Jeonggwan, Ilgwang, Gijang‑eup, and Cheolma: Jeonggwan would emphasize education and jobs; Ilgwang, tourism; Gijang‑eup, industry and heritage; and Cheolma, transportation and development. He said those tailored strategies would drive balanced growth across the county.

Jeong stressed he would strengthen the industrial base around the Jeonggwan and Jangan industrial complexes and build out transportation links to make Gijang a well‑connected city.

In tourism, he identified converting Gijang into a destination where visitors stay longer as a top priority. “Leveraging Gijang’s extraordinary natural assets, I will make it a place where tourists want to linger,” he said, adding his goal to attract 10 million visitors.

Jeong added that while Gijang has yet to realize its full potential, working with residents he can deliver tangible change — “I will prove it with results, not words.”

About 700 people attended the opening, including Rep. Baek Jong‑heon and fellow preliminary candidate Kim Han‑seon, along with local leaders and prospective city and county council candidates.
