3, 2, 1 — we’re on the air.
On May 23, aspiring child announcers and junior producers will gather in the broadcast room at Spo1Park’s Busan Velodrome in Geumjeong District. In this hands-on class, they will read news scripts into microphones and operate live broadcast cameras themselves.
Busan Facilities Corporation announced on May 11 that it will run a “Children’s Broadcasting Career Experience” that day for students in grades 3 through 6 at the velodrome’s play lounge. The program is limited to five participants.
Employees from the corporation’s sports division race-content team will volunteer to lead the sessions. Broadcast professionals who handle live race coverage will also participate to guide the on-site activities.
Participants will get practical experience across production roles — announcing, producing, broadcast engineering, camera operation and graphic design. New this year are an AI-assisted broadcast photo-design workshop and video production training.
Monitors in the studio will show live footage from the velodrome while the children wear headsets and air their own voiceovers.
The corporation has held broadcast-experience classes in spring and fall since 2024. Onsite sessions have included news-anchoring practice, sports-camera training and lessons on appropriate language use.
Officials said they prioritized interactive, equipment-based career experiences over passive tours.
The program is a community-focused career-exploration initiative that leverages the velodrome’s live-broadcast facilities and active broadcast staff.
Applications are open via the corporation’s website through a Naver Form until 6 p.m. on May 14. Selected applicants will be notified by text and phone on the morning of May 15.
Lee Seong-rim, director of the Busan Facilities Corporation, said, “We will continue expanding career-exploration programs that tap employees’ volunteer skills so we can fulfill our role as a public enterprise working with the local community.”
