Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on February 10 that it will open public parking lots for free and temporarily suspend parking enforcement around traditional markets during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday. This move aims to facilitate parking for returning visitors and local residents.

The initiative is designed to provide convenient parking for those returning to their hometowns and visiting ancestral graves, while also mitigating urban congestion during the holiday period.

From February 14 to 18, coinciding with the Lunar New Year holiday, the city will offer free parking for a total of 2,136 spaces. This includes all on-street parking areas and ten off-street parking lots, such as Gongseol, Namcheon, Buksatmal, Seohui, Taxi Rest Area, Jungnichun-ro, Majang 1 & 2, Changjeon-dong Temporary, and Daewol Sadong-ri.

Furthermore, to support traditional markets and enhance visitor convenience, Icheon City will suspend parking enforcement on roads surrounding the Ganggok and Janghowon traditional markets for eight days, from February 11 to 18.

However, the city will maintain strict enforcement against illegal parking in six key areas as reported through the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s resident reporting app (Safety Report). These areas include crosswalks, bus stops, intersections, corners, fire hydrants, school zones, and sidewalks. This measure is crucial for ensuring smooth traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

A city official stated, “We are implementing free parking and suspending enforcement to ensure that visitors returning home for the holiday can enjoy their stay without parking concerns.” The official added, “We hope all residents and visitors have a safe and enjoyable holiday season.”
