A man in his 50s who smashed a neighbor’s windows with a golf club after becoming angry about noise from upstairs has been fined.
Chuncheon District Court, Criminal Division 3 (Presiding Judge Park Dong-wook) announced on the 14th that it sentenced the defendant, identified only as A, 58, who was indicted on charges of aggravated property damage, to a fine of 8,000,000원 (6,000 USD).
According to the indictment, A is accused of taking a golf club into an apartment hallway at about 10 p.m. on Oct. 23 last year and breaking four panes of a neighbor’s window.
The court said A admitted the act, expressed remorse, repaired the damaged glass and reached a settlement with the victim. However, it found the offense serious given the circumstances and the dangerousness of the instrument used. The court also noted that A has multiple prior convictions and that he committed this offense while serving a suspended sentence for a previous violent crime, factors that influenced the sentence.
