[Sports Today reporter Im Si-ryeong] — Hwang Hana, who was charged and remanded on allegations of injecting methamphetamine into acquaintances, denied the charges outright at her first court hearing.
According to Yonhap, Hwang’s first hearing on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act (psychotropic drugs) opened on the 17th at the Anyang branch of the Suwon District Court.
Her attorney denied the indictment and said the defense intends to call witnesses who received the injections.
Prosecutors allege that in July 2023 Hwang encouraged two acquaintances, identified only as A and B, to use methamphetamine and personally injected them at an apartment in Gangnam, Seoul. After police searched one co-defendant’s residence, Hwang fled and is accused of entering Thailand and Cambodia illegally while on the run.
As investigators closed in, she told police late last year she would surrender; authorities arrested her on board a national carrier at Phnom Penh’s Techo International Airport. Hwang’s team has maintained throughout the investigation that she was only present at the scene and did not administer the drugs.
In 2015, she received a suspended sentence for drug use. The following year, while the suspension was still in effect, she was again charged with drug use and was later sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison.
Hwang is also known for her past engagement to Park Yoo-chun, a former member of the K-pop group TVXQ.
