The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission announced it will operate a Normalization Task Force (TF) through April 29 to reexamine how controversial cases were handled under the previous chair, Yu Cheol‑hwan.
On March 17, the commission said the TF will investigate past incidents and pursue institutional reforms to prevent similar problems from recurring.
Vice Chairman and Secretary General Han Sam‑seok will lead the TF. The commission said the unit was formed on March 16 at the direction of Chair Jeong Il‑yeon following an expanded executives’ meeting on March 9.
The commission identified several probes the TF will pursue, including the \”Kim Keon‑hee luxury handbag acceptance\” case and allegations that former Korea Communications Standards Commission chair Ryu Hee‑rim solicited complaints for private benefit.
The review will also cover the on‑duty death of an official that occurred shortly after the handbag matter was addressed, accusations of personnel favoritism, and the Daewoong Pharmaceutical \”self‑complaint\” incident.
The commission said the TF is intended to correct past mistakes, restore staff morale, rebuild the agency’s standing, and regain public trust, calling it an essential step to secure a better future for the commission and its employees.
