[Sports Today reporter Kim Tae-hyung] The government raised the terror alert level around Seoul’s Jongno and Jung districts ahead of BTS’s performance at Gwanghwamun.
On the 18th, officials said the terror alert for Jongno and Jung would be raised one level, from “Interest” to “Caution,” effective from 0:00 on the 19th through 24:00 on the 21st, the day of the concert. The government’s terror alert system has four tiers: Interest, Caution, Warning, and Severe, based on the assessed threat level.
The move follows an order from Prime Minister Kim Min-seok to reinforce safety measures and bolster counterterrorism operations.

The government said that, given recent instability in international affairs, it cannot rule out the possibility of a terrorist threat at large public gatherings such as the BTS concert. To prioritize public safety, authorities will adopt a proactive posture and prepare in advance.
Relevant agencies will swiftly implement response measures corresponding to each alert level and increase surveillance and patrols at major venues and other high-traffic facilities. They also plan to strengthen joint-response protocols across agencies so they can act immediately if an incident occurs.
Officials said the alert aims to ensure that all agencies coordinate closely and maintain a high state of readiness. They pledged to respond quickly and without gaps during the event so the concert can be held safely and successfully.
