Cheongju Heungdeok Police said on the 22nd that they opened an investigation without detaining A, a man in his 20s, on charges of entering an apartment via a balcony and stealing valuables valued at about 40 million KRW (approximately $30,000).

Authorities say the alleged theft occurred around 6 a.m. on the 15th at a first‑floor unit in an apartment building in Heungdeok‑gu, Cheongju. The stolen property — including a stone ring and cash — is estimated at about 40 million KRW (approximately $30,000).

No one was inside the apartment at the time; officers say A entered through an open balcony door.

After the victim reported the theft that afternoon, police tracked the suspect and apprehended A, a resident of the building. He was subsequently booked without detention and remains under investigation.

During questioning, A told police he saw the open balcony door while passing by and acted on impulse.
