Gunpo City has designated a project implementer for the Sanbon 9-2 district, making it the first area among first-phase new towns to move into full-scale reconstruction.

On March 23, the city appointed the Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) as the project implementer for Sanbon 9-2 and said it will advance the aging planned-city redevelopment.

Sanbon 9-2 was designated a special redevelopment zone on Dec. 23 and is one of two pilot districts.

The designation became possible after landowners’ consent reached 86.46%—well above the legal majority. Officials say LH’s involvement will strengthen the project’s public interest and transparency.

The city plans to use the designation as a springboard to advance follow-up steps, including approval by the residents’ representative council and the selection of a contractor.

Mayor Ha Eun-ho said, “Sanbon 9-2 is a leading example, reaching the project-implementer designation stage faster than the other pilot districts. Based on this outcome, we will actively support Gunpo’s efforts to become a leader in first-phase new town redevelopment.”

City officials view the project as an opportunity to solidify Gunpo’s leadership in first-phase new town redevelopment and expect it will meet residents’ expectations through successful implementation.
