The Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Residents’ Association Central Council (Chairman Kwak Young-gil) held its 2026 regular general meeting on the 24th at the Jeonbuk Scholarship Dormitory meeting room in Seoul.

The session opened with remarks by Chairman Kwak and continued with a report on the council’s activities, the 2025 budget settlement, and an auditor’s report. Participants reviewed the past year’s achievements and pledged to strengthen the council’s internal operations and advance development in their home province.

The meeting also included a ceremony to appoint key officials intended to expand the organization’s reach and bolster its expertise.

The council appointed Seo Jeong-il, president of the Federation of Korean Associations in the Americas, as head of the Jeonbuk Residents Association Central Council for the Americas; Han Hee-jun, president of the Pocheon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as president of the golf association; and Jang Young-im, executive director of the Seoul Credit Guarantee Foundation, as vice chairman of the central council.

At the close of the meeting, Chairman Kwak delivered a special lecture titled \”Saemangeum and the Future of Jeonbuk.\”

Kwak reviewed the details and significance of Hyundai Motor Group’s Feb. 27 announcement of a 9 trillion KRW (approximately 6.75 billion USD) investment in Saemangeum and outlined Saemangeum’s potential and strategic direction for Jeonbuk amid a rapidly shifting industrial landscape.

The event drew executive members and hometown leaders, including Kim Deok-ryong, chairman of the World Federation of Overseas Korean Traders Associations; executive directors Seong Heung-su, Yoo Byeong-hyun, and Kim Byeong-gwan; auditors Kwak Se-yeol and Kim Myung-jun; and presidents of Seoul-area city and county residents’ associations.

Kwak said, \”The residents’ association will serve as a firm pillar so that our home province, Jeonbuk, can pursue a broader future. We will do our utmost to unite the capabilities of residents both at home and abroad.\”
