Police and firefighters launched a search after a report that a wolf which escaped in Daejeon had been spotted in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province.

Cheongju city officials and the fire department said they received the report at about 6:56 p.m. on the 9th that a wolf had been seen in the Hyeondo-myeon area of Seowon-gu, Cheongju.

The caller said they believed they had seen the animal at around 10 a.m. that day and only reported it to police about eight hours later.

Fire officials deployed 12 personnel, five vehicles, and drones to search the area, but they found no signs of the wolf.

At about 8:10 p.m., authorities received a separate report that the wolf had been spotted at Ppuri Park in Daejeon; the fire department ended the search roughly 1 hour and 10 minutes later.

Cheongju city sent safety alerts to residents notifying them of the reports and urging caution.

Earlier, the wolf had escaped the previous morning at about 9:30 a.m. by digging under the wire fence at the O-World safari.

During a pre-opening inspection, O-World staff discovered one wolf missing from a group of roughly 20. They blocked public entry and conducted an internal search before reporting the disappearance to Jung-gu district authorities and the fire department about 40 minutes later.
