Atomy announced on April 17 that it will provide KRW 2 billion (about $1.5 million) to support the families of firefighters killed in the line of duty and to improve firefighter welfare.

At the Orot Success Academy event that day, Atomy signed a memorandum of understanding with the nonprofit Firefighter Families Hope Sharing to establish a Support Program for Bereaved Families of Fallen Firefighters.

Under the agreement, the two organizations will cooperate on condolence payments to families; financial support for children’s tuition and wedding expenses; tailored assistance for living and medical costs; and programs to enhance firefighter welfare.

Atomy said it will use the KRW 2 billion to build a long-term support model and to operate a rapid-response fund that can provide immediate aid when a firefighter dies in the line of duty.

An Atomy official said the company pursued the agreement with Firefighter Families Hope Sharing to create a stable, ongoing support system for bereaved families of fallen firefighters, including the family of the firefighter who died in the refrigerated warehouse fire in Wando County, South Jeolla Province, on April 12.

Atomy Chairman Park Han-gil said, \”Supporting firefighters and their families who sacrificed their lives to protect public safety is an important corporate responsibility. We hope this initiative provides practical help for families as they recover.\”

Atomy has been active in disaster-relief philanthropy. In March of last year, the company donated KRW 10 billion (about $7.5 million) and provided emergency relief supplies, including bottled water and food, during wildfires in the Yeongnam region.
