Civic Safety Boost: Cheongju’s 120 Vulnerable Facilities Undergoing Joint Inspections

Cheongju City announced on April 19 that, to strengthen public safety, it will carry out a joint public-private intensive safety inspection of 120 disaster-vulnerable sites from April 20 through June 19. The inspections will focus on facilities at high risk for disasters and will be conducted by teams of private-sector experts and municipal officials. On-site crews will use specialized equipment to carry out detailed assessments, eliminate hazards in advance, and prioritize concrete safety improvements.

Cheongju is also operating a Resident Inspection Application program that allows residents to request inspections. The application period runs through June 1. Eligible sites include public facilities such as children’s playgrounds, traditional markets, village meeting halls, senior centers, bridges, welfare centers, and aging buildings, as well as facilities used by vulnerable populations and other everyday-use sites. However, facilities with clearly designated managers, sites under construction, or locations subject to ongoing litigation or disputes may be excluded. Residents can apply in person at their local eup/myeon/dong administrative welfare center or via the Safety Report app and the city’s website.

A Cheongju city official said, “Through these intensive safety inspections, we will identify and remove hazards at facilities closely tied to residents’ daily lives and create a safer urban environment. We ask for active participation and attention from citizens.”

Officials expect the inspections to prioritize public safety, remove risks at disaster-prone facilities in advance, and contribute to the creation of a safer urban environment.
