Translation result오승록 [Herald Economy — Senior Reporter Park Jong-il] Nowon District Mayor Oh Seung-rok attended the opening ceremony of the Junggye Senior Center on the afternoon of the 21st.

The Junggye Senior Center (the Center) is a multi-purpose cultural space for older residents, created by remodeling the office wing of the Nowon Citizen Hall. The Center not only expands the office of the Korea Senior Citizens Association’s Nowon branch, which had been housed in the Citizen Hall, but also establishes a foundation for seniors’ healthy leisure, cultural activities and broader social participation.

The program began with a prelude performance by the pop-classical ensemble Amoroso and proceeded with a progress report, speeches and congratulatory remarks, a group photo, a facility tour and a celebratory performance by crossover pop-opera group Poppera Bom.

Outdoor booths featured the district-run Surak Senior Welfare Center, the city-run Nowon Senior Welfare Center and the Nowon Senior Club, offering information and hands-on programs tailored to seniors.

On the first floor, the Center houses the Junggye Hyu Cafe and the Nowon branch office of the Korea Senior Citizens Association. The second floor contains a smart health room, program rooms and an auditorium. The facility will host a range of health programs, cultural performances and instructional classes.

The Center has attracted significant interest even before its official opening for introducing the neighborhood’s first AI-based smart exercise equipment and biosystems, for offering an affordable Junggye Hyu Cafe where seniors can buy an Americano for 500 KRW (approximately $0.38), and for staging the twice-weekly Junggye Performance Stage.

Nowon District Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “We created a space in the most accessible location that includes everything seniors need for health and culture. We will operate this place as a flagship, senior-friendly venue to enrich the healthy, active daily lives of Nowon’s older residents.”
