How ‘Traditional Market Day’ Can Revitalize Small Businesses in 2026: A Guide to Supporting Local Markets

Daniel Kim Views

[국립낙동강생물자원관 [Herald Business (Sangju) — Reporter Byung-jin Kim] The National Nakdonggang Biological Resource Center announced on the 22nd that it will designate and operate a Traditional Market Day in 2026 to strengthen cooperation with local small businesses.

The program will run from April through November, aligning with Sangju’s market days on the second and fourth weeks of each month.

To kick off the initiative, about 10 staff members visited Sangju Central Market, Pungmul Market, and Namseong Market. They used Onnuri gift certificates to purchase seasonal spring greens, fruit, and other local produce, taking part in community-minded buying to support local vendors.

Yong Seok-won, director of the National Nakdonggang Biological Resource Center, said, “We hope Traditional Market Day helps small business owners recover and revitalizes traditional markets. As a public institution working with the local community, we will continue to carry out our social responsibilities.”
