Inspections of key sites: school commute safety, water features, neighborhood landscape, and child care

Namyangju City said it conducted a \”policy site tour\” on the 28th in Dasan-dong to directly inspect major projects affecting residents’ daily lives.

The inspections were part of the city’s ongoing \”field-centered administration\” initiative. Officials said the tour aimed to address everyday inconveniences residents face and to closely monitor progress on key projects.

On the day, Mayor Joo Gwang-deok visited the following sites in order: the school commute route at Gaun High School; landscape improvements at the Jigeum-dong public cemetery; the development of a multipurpose grass plaza along the Wangsuk Stream; landscape improvements for the Donongcheon small stream; and the Haneulnuri Community Childcare Center.

First, Mayor Joo walked the planned Gaun High School commute route to assess pedestrian safety measures. The project covers a 400-meter stretch with an 8-meter width and has already been incorporated into the city’s urban management plan. Officials say the work will improve students’ commute safety and help ease local traffic once complete.

Next, officials inspected the Jigeum-dong public cemetery site. In the short term, the city will install evergreen screening to block views of the cemetery. Over the medium to long term, it will study relocating and converting the site into a park linked to development around Yangjeong Station, transforming the area into a resting space for local residents.

Mayor Joo said, \”The safety of students must be our foremost priority, and the quality of the residential environment directly affects people’s daily satisfaction. Prioritize pedestrian-centered school routes and expedite landscape improvements near the cemetery so residents can feel tangible results.\”

Officials then proceeded to inspect the Wangsuk Stream multipurpose grass plaza project and the Donongcheon small-stream landscape improvements.

The Wangsuk Stream multipurpose grass plaza is planned on a 16,100 m² site along the boundary between Donong-dong and Guri City. The project will include a multipurpose grass area that can double as an 18-hole park-golf course, along with supporting amenities, and is scheduled for completion in October. The Donongcheon small-stream landscape project involves installing decorative lighting along the riverside walking path; the first phase is complete, and additional sections are being rolled out in stages.

Finally, Mayor Joo visited the Haneulnuri Community Childcare Center to review local childcare operations and programs and to gather feedback from staff on the ground.

Mayor Joo said, \”We must carefully review safety and convenience so the Wangsuk Stream plaza and Donongcheon walking paths become welcoming places for all ages. We will also actively incorporate the voices from childcare sites—such as community centers that support children’s development—into city policy and continue field-centered support.\”

Namyangju City said it will continue regular site visits to hear residents’ concerns and actively reflect field-identified issues and improvement measures in municipal administration.
