On May 5, Jeonju City held the 104th Children’s Day ceremony and \”Jeonju Play Week\” at Nosong Square in front of city hall, drawing roughly 3,000 residents, including children and their parents.

The event centered on participatory programming that combined performances, hands-on activities and play, attracting many family visitors.

The ceremony opened with a taekwondo demonstration and a K-pop dance performance, followed by awards honoring exemplary children and contributors to child welfare.

Twenty-four people received awards, and a child representative read the charter to underscore the day’s significance. The program then moved into a wish-airplane launch performance to officially begin the festivities.

Across the venue, organizers offered a variety of activities to engage children. The play area featured an inflatable bounce attraction, a zip line and a nature playground. Career-experience booths and activity and information halls were also on site. Staged performances included a magic show, a bubble show and a balloon show, while interactive events such as a lively field day and a random-play dance invited audience participation.

Several organizations staffed booths on topics ranging from children’s rights and emotional health to financial education, adding educational value. Face painting, sand art, keychain-making workshops and food stalls also proved popular.

Through the event, the city emphasized children’s rights to play and participate, and said it is steadily expanding the policy foundation for a child-friendly city.

Mayor Woo Beom-gi of Jeonju said, \”Creating an environment where children can freely pursue their dreams is one of Jeonju City’s most important responsibilities. I hope this was a meaningful time for families.\”
