Gongju mayoral candidate Choi Won‑cheol on the 6th unveiled his education and welfare platform for the ninth municipal term, pledging to restore the city’s reputation as an education hub and to expand health care services.

He cited achievements from the eighth term — including designation of an education development special zone, subsidies for caregiver copayments, and four consecutive A grades for the childcare support program from Chungcheongnam‑do — and said he aims to build a city where parents feel secure and children thrive.

He also highlighted the construction of 236 smart senior centers—the only such facilities in Chungcheongnam‑do—as evidence of expanded health services.

For the ninth term, Choi proposes adding holiday care to existing emergency and gap‑coverage services by opening year‑round, 24/7 “I‑Mom” care centers. As part of the governor’s pledges, he included providing lunches during school breaks to children who are currently excluded from public care services to address child food insecurity.

To help parents balance work and family, eligibility for family care and livelihood support would be raised from 63% to 65% of median income. He would also remove the previous limit of 25 assisted‑reproduction procedures per birth for infertile couples, making coverage unlimited.

As an ongoing project, he plans to allocate and spend 19.9 billion KRW by 2029 to build a Disability Family Rest Center to promote equality, rights, and barrier‑free access in Gongju (approximately $14,925,000).

Choi said the four core pledges are not a break from the eighth term but a continuation of connected projects that he intends to complete in the ninth term.
