[Sports Seoul | Reporter Yoon Dong-eon] Shinhan Bank has partnered with the Dongbang Social Welfare Foundation on a long-term sponsorship initiative to support economic self-sufficiency for single-mother households.

Shinhan Bank said on May 8 that it held a funding ceremony for the “Economic Independence Support Project for Single Mothers” with the Dongbang Social Welfare Foundation at its headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul.

Planned ahead of Single-Parent Family Day on May 10, the program aims to help single mothers facing financial hardship stabilize their lives and build pathways to independence. Shinhan Bank will contribute KRW 300 million (approximately $225,000) over three years and will offer financial literacy, employment, and mental-health recovery programs for roughly 200 beneficiaries.

Beneficiaries will be selected nationwide from single-mother households, based on income and each applicant’s potential for independence.

Since 2023, the partners have operated employment-support programs for single mothers, providing vocational training to about 180 people. Shinhan employees also participate regularly in volunteer activities.

Attendees at the ceremony included Kang Young-hong, head of Shinhan Bank’s Management Support Group, and Kim Hyun-ki, chair of the Dongbang Social Welfare Foundation. After the ceremony, participants—including single mothers—volunteered to make flower baskets for vulnerable community members. hellboy321@sportsseoul.com
