The architectural community in Jeonbuk is shifting away from site-level competition and individually focused work toward broader cooperation and exchange. A large-scale sports event organized to strengthen solidarity and communication among architects highlighted the renewed need to build internal cohesion and collaborative systems across the regional construction sector.

About 600 people — architects and their family members — attended the ‘2026 Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Architects One-Heart Sports Festival’ at the Moaksan soccer field in Wanju on the 9th. The Jeonbuk chapter of the Korean Institute of Architects and the Jeonju Architects Association co-hosted and organized the event, which drew participation from the Jeonbuk provincial government, architecture officials from 14 cities and counties, and related institutions.

The program included soccer, relay races, tug-of-war and family-oriented recreational activities. Participants used the occasion not only for sport but also to share field experience, discuss local architectural issues and exchange perspectives on industry trends, thereby widening professional networks.

With construction activity slowing and the local building market undergoing change, the need for collaboration and information-sharing among architects has grown. Observers said the event served to strengthen internal industry networks. On site, professionals in design, supervision, administration and construction mingled and exchanged views on the direction of local architectural culture and the need to cultivate a healthier industry ecosystem.

One attendee said, “Our daily work leaves little room for interaction, so this was a meaningful opportunity for local architects to reconnect and build solidarity.” Others added, “We hope forums like this continue so the regional architecture community can grow together.”

Choi Jeong-il, head of Jeonbuk Province’s Construction and Transportation Bureau, said, “Architecture is a vital field that shapes residents’ living environments. I hope this sports festival strengthens cooperation and harmony among architects.” He added that the provincial government will continue administrative support and cooperation to promote Jeonbuk’s architectural development and foster a healthy building culture.

The Jeonbuk provincial government plans to expand programs and exchange projects that enhance communication and capacity-building among architecture stakeholders. Industry observers said the event was more than a sports day; it symbolized efforts to shore up the local construction sector’s sustainability and collective response mechanisms.
