Starbucks’ global headquarters has apologized to the people of Gwangju over a “Tank Day” event held by Starbucks Korea. A Starbucks Global spokesperson emailed Reuters on May 19 (local time), saying, “We sincerely apologize to the citizens of Gwangju, to those affected by this tragedy, and to our customers and the local community.” The spokesperson said the company has taken action against those responsible and is conducting a thorough investigation. To prevent a recurrence, Starbucks is strengthening internal controls, reviewing its code of conduct, and enhancing company-wide training. Starbucks Korea is a joint venture between Starbucks’ global business and Emart, part of the Shinsegae Group. #Starbucks #Apology #Global #TankDay Yonhap News TV — For story tips and inquiries: KakaoTalk/LINE jebo23; Choi Jin-kyung (highjean@yna.co.kr)
