Ordered swift accident response; pledged full support for bereaved families and the injuredMinister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Ho-joong visited the Seosomun overpass collapse site in Seoul on the 27th and vowed a thorough investigation into the cause, along with robust measures to prevent a recurrence. After reviewing emergency response operations, he said he takes the loss of life at the demolition site very seriously, offered condolences to the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He received briefings from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, fire and police authorities, Seoul city officials and Korea Railroad Corporation on each agency’s response, and ordered them to concentrate all efforts on a rapid and comprehensive recovery. He also discussed traffic measures to address disruptions to rail services—including high-speed trains—and reviewed plans to ensure safety before removing debris and the remaining deck.Yoon instructed the Disaster Victim Support Center and designated one-on-one government case officers to make sure there are no gaps in support for bereaved families and the injured.Separately, at about 2:33 p.m. the previous day, part of the deck collapsed at the Seosomun overpass demolition site in Migeun-dong, Seodaemun District, Seoul. Of the 13 people at the scene, three were killed and three were injured; the other seven had evacuated earlier and avoided harm.
