Management and labor representatives at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries held a kickoff meeting for this year’s wage and collective bargaining talks, formally launching negotiations.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said on June 2 that it hosted the “2026 Wage and Collective Bargaining” kickoff at its Ulsan headquarters. Attendees included President Geum Seok-ho, Federation of Metalworkers Deputy Chair Kim Gyu-jin, Hyundai Heavy Industries branch head Kim Dong-ha, and other members of the bargaining committee.
Both sides introduced their bargaining teams and exchanged views on the negotiation schedule and procedures. They plan to begin the first round of talks on June 9 and will meet twice weekly to discuss wages and collective agreement issues.
President Geum said cooperation between the company and the union is essential to resolving issues amid shifting domestic and global business conditions. He urged both sides to maintain constructive dialogue following the kickoff and to work toward shared goals.
Branch head Kim said he hopes the talks will prioritize securing jobs on the shop floor and ensuring employment stability, rather than descending into needless confrontation.
On May 20, the Hyundai Heavy Industries branch of the Federation of Metalworkers submitted its bargaining demands to the company, calling for a base pay increase of ₩149,600 (approximately $112.20) — excluding step-based raises — a 100% increase in bonuses, and a performance-sharing mechanism that would allocate at least 30% of operating profit.
The company and the union are expected to continue negotiating the size of wage increases, the distribution of performance gains, and measures to protect employment in upcoming sessions.
