Yeom Heung-yeol, newly appointed chairman of the Korea Digital Certification Association.

[Digital Today reporter Hwang Chi-gyu] The Korea Digital Certification Association announced that, effective June 1, Yeom Heung-yeol, professor emeritus in the Department of Information Security at Suncheonhyang University, has been appointed its new chairman.

Yeom said he will prioritize three main objectives: ▲ strengthening Korea’s voice within international standards bodies like the ITU·ISO; ▲ supporting member companies’ technological competitiveness and facilitating their global expansion; and ▲ expanding cooperation networks with related domestic and international organizations.

Yeom said, \”Now is the time to formalize Korea’s digital identity and authentication technologies and infrastructure as international standards. As autonomous AI agents become part of everyday life and the digital economy crosses borders, we will deepen cooperation with international organizations like the ITU·ISO and concentrate the association’s efforts to ensure Korean technologies are adopted as global standards.\”

In 2016 Yeom became the first Asian elected chair of ITU‑T SG17. He won re-election in 2022 and completed two terms; after his tenure he has served as vice chair of the ITU‑T TSAG.

He added, \”Digital authentication is core infrastructure in the AI-driven digital economy and underpins digital trust between countries. The association will act as a bridge between industry and government that reflects users’ needs, and we will work to help our member companies emerge as leaders on the global stage.\”
