[Sports Today reporter Lee Sang-pil] Si Woo Kim finished tied for 50th at the PGA Tour’s so-called “fifth major,” The Players Championship (total purse $25 million (approximately 33.3 billion KRW)).
On March 16 (KST), at the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida (par 72 / 7,352 yards), Kim made three birdies in the final round but also carded five bogeys and a double bogey, leaving him 4-over on the day.
Kim closed at 1-over 289 and fell 17 spots from a tie for 33rd to finish tied for 50th.
Kim has three top-10 finishes this season. He hoped to contend at The Players, a tournament he won in 2017, but ultimately came up short.
The title went to Cameron Young (USA). Young shot 4-under in the final round to finish 13-under 275, edging runner-up Matt Fitzpatrick (England), who finished 12-under 276, by one stroke.
The victory was Young’s first of the season and his second career PGA Tour win, coming about 7 months after his previous triumph at the Wyndham Championship last August.
Xander Schauffele (USA) finished third at 11-under 277. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (USA) tied for 22nd at 5-under 283.
