[Sports Today reporter Lee Sang-pil] South Korea’s leading high jumper, Woo Sang-hyeok, tied for third and claimed bronze at the World Indoor Athletics Championships.
On March 21 (Korea time), Woo finished tied for third in the men’s high jump final at the 2026 World Indoor Championships in Toruń, Poland, at the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Arena after clearing 2.26 meters (7 ft 5 in).
Woo entered the meet as the defending champion after winning last year’s World Indoors in Nanjing. He was chasing back-to-back golds but had to settle for bronze this time.
He extended his streak to four consecutive medals at the World Indoor Championships.
That day, Woo cleared 2.17 meters (7 ft 1 in), 2.22 meters (7 ft 3 in) and 2.26 meters (7 ft 5 in) on his first attempts.
He missed all three attempts at 2.30 meters (7 ft 7 in), eliminating him from the gold-medal race and leaving him tied for third.
Oleh Doroshchuk (Ukraine) cleared 2.30 meters (7 ft 7 in) on his first attempt to take gold, while Erick Portillo (Mexico) cleared 2.30 meters on his third attempt to earn silver.
Raymond Richards (Jamaica) matched Woo’s 2.26 meters to secure the other bronze.
