Incheon Local Elections 2026: Key Candidates Emerge for Namdong and Geomdan Districts

The Incheon branch of the Democratic Party completed its runoff primaries and confirmed nominees for the Namdong and Geomdan district mayoral races.
On the 26th, the party’s Incheon election committee released the primary results for the 9th nationwide local elections in Incheon: Lee Byung-rae clinched the Namdong nomination, while Kim Jin-gyu secured the Geomdan nomination.
In Namdong, Lee defeated Park In-dong in the runoff. The outcome sets up a rematch with Namdong Mayor Park Jong-hyo of the People Power Party, who faced Lee in the previous (8th) local election.
In the newly created Geomdan district, Kim Jin-gyu prevailed over Kang Nam-gyu to become the Democratic nominee. He will go head-to-head with Park Se-hoon of the People Power Party, a former senior secretary for social affairs in Incheon City.
With these results, all 11 municipal chief races in Incheon for the June 3 elections are now finalized, completing the head-to-head matchups between the parties.
In Bupyeong, Democratic incumbent Cha Joon-taek will face People Power challenger Lee Dan-bi. In Gyeyang, Democratic candidate Park Hyung-woo will take on People Power candidate Lee Byung-taek.
In the newly formed Yeongjong district, Democratic candidate Son Hwa-jeong will compete against Kim Jeong-heon, the People Power mayor of Jung-gu. In Jemulpo, Democratic nominee Namgoong Hyung will run against Kim Chan-jin, the People Power mayor of the East District. In Seohae, Democratic candidate Koo Jae-yong will face Kang Beom-seok, the People Power mayor of Seo District.
In Yeonsu, Democratic candidate Jeong Ji-yeol will challenge People Power incumbent Lee Jae-ho. In Michuhol, Democratic candidate Kim Jeong-sik will go up against People Power incumbent Lee Young-hoon.
In Ganghwa County, Democratic candidate Han Yeon-hee will clash with People Power incumbent Park Yong-chul. In Ongjin County, Democratic candidate Jang Jeong-min will face People Power incumbent Moon Kyung-bok.
