[Sports Seoul | Reporter Jung Da-wo] The Korea Volleyball Association has finalized disciplinary measures against Ahn Hye-jin following her DUI incident.
On April 27, the association’s disciplinary committee met at its Mapo-gu office in Seoul and issued Ahn a stern warning and a fine of ₩5,000,000 (roughly $3,750).
The committee stopped short of imposing a suspension from play.
Officials said they considered several factors: Ahn’s relatively low blood-alcohol concentration of 0.032%, her immediate self-reporting to both the club and the league, and her expressed remorse. They also noted that because she is currently unsigned in free agency and has been removed from the national team, she will effectively be sidelined for about a year — an outcome the panel felt made an additional suspension unnecessary.
Ahn was booked by police on April 16 for drunk driving. She reported the incident to her club herself, and the club informed the league, which convened the disciplinary hearing.
Ahn had been coming off a milestone season, leading GS Caltex to the 2025–26 V-League title and positioning herself for a major free-agent payday. As one of the league’s top setters, her market value had surged and she was even mentioned as a candidate for the highest salary in the women’s division. But GS Caltex and every other team opted not to sign her, leaving her without a contract. As a result, she will not appear in the 2026–27 V-League season.
Ahn attended the disciplinary hearing in person and said, “I am sorry for causing worry and concern. I sincerely apologize to the fans and everyone involved. I will make sure this never happens again.” weo@sportsseoul.com
