Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Young‑hoon met on the afternoon of May 21, 2026, with ILO Director‑General Gilbert Houngbo at the Four Seasons Hotel in Seoul. The ministry said the two discussed the direction of people‑centered artificial intelligence (AI) policy, the South Korean government’s strategy for realizing a labor‑respecting society, strengthening partnerships such as Korea‑ILO cooperative projects, and measures to expand Korea’s role within the ILO. Kim said that if Korea and the ILO cooperate closely, they can jointly present a people‑centered AI transition model to the international community that balances technological innovation with protection of workers’ rights. He added that Korea intends to contribute actively to international discussions on responsible AI use and labor‑market transitions. Director‑General Houngbo characterized Korea’s AI‑enabled employment and labor administration model as an excellent policy example that developing countries could adapt, and he urged Korea to actively share and promote these policies so they serve as meaningful references for the international community.
