[SPOTV News=Reporter Park Dae-sung] Harry Maguire (33) has been a steadying presence as Manchester United have climbed the table, but manager Thomas Tuchel has decided not to take him to the World Cup in North America.

The BBC reported on the 22nd (Korean time) that, as Tuchel prepares to name England’s 26-man squad for the North America World Cup, Manchester United defender Harry Maguire will be left out.

In a BBC interview last month, Maguire said, “This World Cup in North America will likely be my last time wearing the England shirt. I’ve been to two World Cups, and I missed the Euros two years ago because of an injury — that really hurt. I don’t care what role Tuchel gives me; I desperately want to go to this World Cup.”

He added, “Whether I start or come on late doesn’t matter. I’m over 30, but I still believe I’m one of the best defenders in the box. There’s no doubt about that,” showing his confidence.

Although the final squad hasn’t been announced, it appears Maguire has been informed he won’t go to the World Cup.

According to the BBC, Maguire posted on Instagram: “Based on my performances this season, I was confident I could play a major role for my country this summer. I’m shocked by this decision and heartbroken. I wish the players the best of luck.”

The outlet reported that Maguire’s mother, Joy, reacted angrily to Tuchel’s decision, saying she was deeply disappointed and calling it “disgusting.”

Maguire has been in good form for Manchester United and contributed reliably as a squad member during Michael Carrick’s turnaround this season. He even signed a contract extension with United during the campaign, reinforcing his value.

The BBC explained that Tuchel has opted for other choices. Maguire may feel he’s reached the best form he can this year, but Tuchel did not change his mind. “We have to respect that decision,” the report added.

Meanwhile, Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Luke Shaw, Levi Colwill, and Fikayo Tomori are also expected to miss out on the World Cup squad.
