200 Wins Achieved: Ryu Hyun-jin Makes Baseball History

Hanwha defeated Doosan 5-2 on May 24 at Hanwha Life Park in Daejeon in the 2026 Shinhan SOL KBO League.

The win was Hanwha’s third straight, moving the club to 23-24 and into sole possession of fifth place. They finished the weekend on a high note by taking all three games from Doosan.

Doosan fell to its third straight loss and dropped to 22-1-25, leaving them tied with the SSG Landers for sixth place.

Ryu, the Eagles’ starter, turned in 6.2 innings, allowing six hits, issuing no walks, striking out three and giving up two runs to earn his fifth win of the season (5-2).

With the victory, Ryu hit a major career milestone: 200 wins across the KBO and Major League Baseball. He entered the game with 121 KBO wins (69 losses) and 78 MLB wins (48 losses) for a combined 199; Friday’s start provided the final win to reach 200.

Ryu had a chance to reach the mark previously on May 17 at KT. He left that game after five innings with qualifying stats (five hits, one walk, three strikeouts, two runs), but the bullpen surrendered the lead and delayed the milestone.

This time, Ryu was in command from the first inning, holding Doosan’s offense in check. He departed after 6.2 innings with Hanwha leading 5-2 and qualified for the decision.

The bullpen preserved the edge: Kim Jong-soo tossed 1.1 scoreless innings, and Park Sang-won closed with one scoreless inning to lock down Ryu’s personal milestone.

Ryu now becomes the second pitcher in Korean professional baseball history to reach 200 combined wins, following former Hanwha coach Song Jin-woo.

Offensively, Luis Peraza paced Hanwha with two hits in three at-bats, including a solo homer, one RBI and one run scored. Lee Won-seok added two hits in four at-bats with an RBI and two runs.

Doosan starter Choi Seung-yong took the loss after four innings, giving up six hits (one homer), two walks, two strikeouts and five runs.

Hanwha struck first. In the bottom of the first, leadoff man Lee Won-seok doubled to left-center, advanced to third on Peraza’s sacrifice bunt and scored on Moon Hyun-bin’s sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead.

Doosan’s offense was silenced by Ryu through three innings; they didn’t put a runner on base until the top of the fourth. With one out in that frame, Park Ji-hoon delivered the game’s first hit with a single to left, but Doosan failed to capitalize as Cameron flew out and Yang Eui-ji grounded out.

Hanwha swung momentum with the long ball in the bottom of the fourth. Peraza launched Choi’s third pitch — a 132 km/h slider — over the left-field wall for a solo shot.

The Eagles kept the pressure on. A walk to No Si-hwan and a hit-by-pitch to Heo In-seo produced a two-out, bases-loaded chance, and Lee Do-yoon’s single to right brought home No to make it 3-0.

Hanwha added another run in the bottom of the fifth. Shim Woo-jun reached on an infield single, advanced to third on a throwing error and a misplayed steal attempt, then scored on Lee Won-seok’s RBI single. Peraza followed with a double, and Moon Hyun-bin’s RBI single extended the lead to 5-0.

Doosan finally woke up in the top of the sixth. With one out, Jung Soo-bin tripled to right and Park Chan-ho followed with a single to left for Doosan’s first run.

The comeback continued in the seventh. After two outs, back-to-back hits by Kang Seung-ho and Yoon Jun-ho put runners in scoring position, and Lim Jong-seong’s single to left produced another run, cutting it to 5-2. Manager Hanwha then removed Ryu and brought in Kim Jong-soo, who fielded Jung Soo-bin’s grounder himself to end the inning without further damage.

With a three-run cushion, Hanwha turned to Park Sang-won in the top of the ninth. Park allowed three consecutive hits to Yoon Jun-ho, Kim In-tae and Jung Soo-bin, loading the bases with no outs. He then induced routine outs from Park Chan-ho, Park Ji-hoon and Cameron to strand the threat and preserve a 5-2 victory.
