KIA Tigers Sign Keisho Shirakawa: A Bold Move for the KBO Season

Daniel Kim Views

Translation result.KIA는 Japanese pitcher Keisho Shirakawa is set to return to the KBO League after two years.

KIA announced on May 28 that it signed Shirakawa to a deal worth up to $100,000 (approximately 150 million KRW), including a $20,000 signing bonus (approximately 30 million KRW), a $40,000 salary (approximately 60 million KRW) and $40,000 in options (approximately 60 million KRW). He will take the roster spot of infielder Jared Daley.

The independent-league product from Japan will don his third KBO uniform after appearing for the SSG Landers and the Doosan Bears in 2024.

Shirakawa first arrived in the KBO as an injury replacement for SSG and later joined Doosan that same year. He made 12 appearances, going 4-5 with a 5.65 ERA, then returned to Japan after failing to secure a new contract.

KIA brought Shirakawa back because the club sees him as a versatile arm who can contribute out of the bullpen and provide spot starts. His prior KBO experience should help him adapt quickly, the team said.

Shirakawa will join KIA’s second team on the 29th to build his conditioning before moving up to the first team.
