Korail announced that, starting March 13, passengers can pick their seats on the Korail Talk app right up until departure.
On March 12, Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) unveiled a major upgrade to the seat-selection feature on its Korail Talk mobile app to make travel easier and more flexible. Beginning March 13, riders can choose their exact seats up until the train pulls out.

Until now, you could only select a seat up to 20 minutes before departure. The new system displays real-time availability, so you can reserve a seat until the train leaves. Prefer a window for the view, an aisle for a quick exit, or a seat with a power outlet to charge your devices? Pick what suits you when you book.
Korail already rolled out two government-recognized, public-facing innovations last December: the Korail Talk Self Seat Change service and the DIY Transfer service.
The Self Seat Change feature lets KTX passengers switch seats via Korail Talk without asking the crew for help. You can move once per trip—switch between regular and first class or convert standing/free seating into a reserved seat.
The DIY Transfer service lets you pick your transfer station according to your schedule instead of relying on an automated recommendation. It allows connections with transfer times between 10 and 50 minutes, giving you time to explore nearby sights or run a quick errand at the transfer stop.
Lee Min-seong, head of Korail’s Customer Marketing Division, said, “We will actively gather public feedback to continuously improve the convenience of our reservation system and, through service innovation, create an even more user-friendly rail experience.”
