If you’re craving literary vibes this spring, put Sille Village in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, on your list. This is the hometown and story setting of celebrated short-story writer Kim Yujeong, and it was recently named one of Gangwon’s promising tourist spots—now the village is prepping for an exciting next chapter.
True to its name—said to resemble a domed tteok-siru, a traditional rice steamer—Sille Village has a cozy, tucked-away charm. You can stroll through the very settings that come alive in Kim’s stories “Spring, Spring” and “Camellia.”
The village sits right in front of Kim Yujeong Station on the Gyeongchun Line, about 1 hour and 20 minutes from Seoul’s Sangbong Station by train—perfect for a walkable day trip.
Centered on the Kim Yujeong Literary Village, the area packs a range of cultural stops within easy walking distance: the Book and Printing Museum, the Jeon Sang-guk Literary Garden, and a hands-on traditional brewing experience center.
The Kim Yujeong Literary Village recreates the author’s childhood home and features a memorial exhibition and statue, offering visitors an intimate look at his life and work.
The Sille Story Trail traces the village lanes once walked by the characters in his novels. Sculptures reenacting scenes from the stories dot the path, making every step feel like a page turning. When spring flowers are in bloom, the trail turns especially picturesque.
Book and Printing Museum: This quirky museum showcases metal movable type and vintage printing presses, and lets you try printing yourself.
The old Kim Yujeong Station no longer serves trains, but its atmospheric photo spots and cozy book café make it a favorite stop for visitors.
Chuncheon City announced that Sille Village, centered around the Kim Yujeong Literary Village, was selected as a final winner in the “2026 Gangwon Small-Scale Potential Tourist Site Discovery and Development” competition run by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization.
Chuncheon plans to use this designation to transform Sille Village into a stay-and-stay-longer destination—one where visitors walk, take part in activities, and linger. On the 20th, the city will sign an MOU with the Korea Tourism Organization’s Gangwon cooperation team and kick off efforts to develop new tourism content and promotional campaigns.
