Spring Safety Check: How Chuncheon Ensures a Secure Experience for Tourists in 2026

Yuk Dong-han, mayor of Chuncheon in Gangwon Province, toured the city’s major cultural attractions on the 14th to review safety measures ahead of the spring visitor rush.

He began at the Kim Yu-jeong Literary Village and went on to visit the Kim Yu-jeong rail bike, the bike path on the Uiam Dam service bridge, the Gongjicheon area, the Soyang River Skywalk, and the Soyang Art Circle. At each stop, he inspected facility upkeep, pedestrian flow, and overall safety protocols.

Under last year’s open-tourism development project, the Kim Yu-jeong Literary Village improved ramps and walkways around the Kim Yu-jeong Memorial Exhibition Hall and the storytelling house, added accessibility features for people with disabilities, and created resting areas for visiting families.

The Kim Yu-jeong rail bike introduced the country’s first wheelchair-accessible Companion Bike and a Romance Train equipped with wheelchair-only seats and a lift—transforming the attraction into a genuinely accessible destination for all visitors.

He also checked the bike path on the Uiam Dam service bridge, which reopened on the 1st.

After touring Gongjicheon, Chuncheon Sairo 248 and the Cultural Plaza Forest, he stopped by the Soyang River Skywalk and inspected the Soyang Art Circle, which officially opened on the 11th.

Mayor Yuk said, “We will continue thorough safety inspections at major tourist sites to prepare for the spring surge and ensure residents and visitors can enjoy them with confidence.”
