JR West is bringing back the Hanaakari sightseeing train for a limited spring 2026 run, offering travelers a stylish way to soak up the scenery and culture of Hiroshima and the Setouchi region.

According to JR West, Hanaakari will operate from March 20 through June 28, running mainly on weekends and public holidays. Note that it won’t run on certain dates, including Golden Week (April 29–May 6), Japan’s string of national holidays.

The route links key Setouchi attractions—Hiroshima, Miyajima and Iwakuni—so passengers can see the iconic Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima, explore Hiroshima’s Castle and Peace Memorial Park, and visit Iwakuni’s scenic highlights all in one easy trip.

The service runs from Hiroshima to Iwakuni via Miyajimaguchi. The downbound train departs Hiroshima Station at 10:05 a.m., calls at Miyajimaguchi at 10:53 a.m., and arrives at Iwakuni Station at 11:11 a.m. The upbound train leaves Iwakuni at 5:00 p.m., stops at Miyajimaguchi around 5:45 p.m., and reaches Hiroshima Station at 6:14 p.m.

Onboard programming showcases Setouchi culture. Every passenger receives Momiji manjū and Toyoka (桐葉菓) from Yamada-ya, a traditional Miyajima confectioner, plus a beverage in special packaging, along with a limited-edition 2026 commemorative stand.

Car No. 2 will feature an exhibition on Hiroshima Kagura, the area’s traditional performing art, helping passengers dive deeper into local culture. The train will also offer Setouchi specialties and original Hanaakari and Hiroshima Kagura merchandise for sale onboard.

Riders need a dedicated Hanaakari Ticket for the sightseeing service and must pay the regular fare for the segment separately. Segment fares can be paid with a rail pass or a transit card.

A JR West spokesperson said, “We plan to offer travelers an experience that combines the natural scenery and traditional culture of Hiroshima and the Setouchi region.”
