The East Coast of North Gyeongsang’s signature spring celebration, the 29th Yeongdeok Snow Crab Festival, takes place from the 26th through the 29th at Ganggu Haepalang Park.
Honored as an Outstanding Festival by North Gyeongsang Province, this year’s theme—“Catch the crab, savor the fun—taste Yeongdeok snow crab”—emphasizes hands-on programs that invite visitors to jump in and play.
Flagship activities like “Yeongdeok snow crab fishing” and the “trap-fishing experience” run twice a day. Experience tickets are sold on-site on a first-come, first-served basis, and they often sell out quickly on weekends, so plan ahead.
The quirky “crab-carry race” runs as a mini-tournament, with special prizes for the champions.
The festival also offers a lineup of interactive events: lightning auctions featuring premium Bakdal snow crab at discounted prices, “Committee Treats” giveaways, “Catch the Armband Wearer” games and more — all designed to surprise and delight visitors.
Live performances keep the energy high. Local artists open the festival, followed by a Generational Harmony concert on day two. On the 28th, Jeon Yu-jin appears on “Yeongdeok ON Stage,” and the final night wraps with a performance by Hwang Min-ho and a fireworks finale.
Yeongdeok County is rolling out more smart services to boost visitor convenience. Some booths will use a “smart queuing” system, and digital features such as restroom crowding alerts will be piloted.
To curb price gouging, a volunteer monitoring team will enforce fixed pricing, and all vendor booths will display price tags to ensure transparency throughout the festival.
A representative from the Yeongdeok Snow Crab Festival Steering Committee said, “With our 30th anniversary coming up next year, we’ve sharpened the experiences, the food offerings and overall operations. We hope visitors will both taste the true flavor of Yeongdeok snow crab and soak up the festival vibes.”
