Nestled around Sobaeksan in Yeongju, the National Forest Healing Center—one of Korea’s leading forest-welfare facilities—has quietly become a go-to spot for forest-healing tourism, drawing roughly 890,000 visitors to date.

As more people seek short escapes to reset both body and mind, “K-forest healing” has emerged as a fresh wellness travel trend.

The center has also tapped into local history and culture, creating programs that pair forest therapy with historical tours—an appealing mix that’s helping revive regional tourism.

The center offers a variety of forest-therapy programs set in stunning natural surroundings, all aimed at easing stress and restoring physical and mental balance.

Relax tense muscles with specialized therapy equipment, unwind with water-jet hydrotherapy sessions, or sink into guided healing meditations using singing bowls and logs. These well-structured experiences consistently earn high marks from visitors.

All sessions are led by nationally certified forest-therapy guides, ensuring professional care and safety—something families and group visitors especially appreciate.

Booking is simple: visitors can reserve programs through the integrated forest-welfare platform Forest e-Rang, making access easy and convenient.

Programs that combine forest healing with local historical and cultural sites are especially popular. In the Sunheung area of Yeongju, a storytelling walking route called the Danjong’s Heartbreak Daegun Trail brings Joseon-era tales of loyalty to life.

The roughly 7 km (4.3-mile) trail, inspired by the story of Geumseong Daegun—a royal family member who remained loyal in hopes of restoring the young King Danjong—starts at Pikkeut Village and connects Jukdong Seonghwangdang, Bongseoru, Daesandanso, Sahyeonjeong, Sosu Seowon, and the Geumseong Daegun shrine. Walking the route lets visitors experience Sunheung’s history and Yeongju’s rich cultural heritage up close.

To make exploring easier, Yeongju City operates a Half-Share Tourist Taxi that subsidizes 50% of fares for out-of-area visitors, helping travelers hop between Sunheung’s key sites. Initiatives like this are steadily building a stay-and-explore tourism circuit linking the National Forest Healing Center with favorites such as Sosu Seowon and Buseoksa Temple.

“The forest is the most natural place to restore tired bodies and minds,” a National Forest Healing Center official said. “We will continue working with Yeongju City to expand forest-tourism programs that combine forest therapy with historical and cultural tourism to help boost the local tourism industry.”
