“I thought it was something you could do in college. I wanted to share experiences and memories beyond borders.”

Cross the Line (Instagram: hnu_crosstheline), a travel club made up of students from Hannam University’s Department of Hotel and Aviation Management, is turning heads by sharing global travel adventures through a social media content project.

Hwang Eun-woo, the club’s founder (class of ’21, Hotel and Aviation Management), uploaded videos he shot while traveling abroad to social platforms. He captured unfiltered moments of students on independent trips, and that honest, relatable approach has really resonated with budget-conscious young travelers.

So far, Cross the Line has produced about 40 pieces of content, amassing roughly 5 million cumulative views and reaching as many as 3.25 million views on a single post.

What started with just two friends has grown into a crew of about 20 department members who actively contribute.

The students traveled independently to destinations including Da Nang (Vietnam), Bangkok (Thailand), Canada, the United States, Cebu, China, Spain, Turkey and Egypt, candidly documenting the moments and cultures they encountered.

Even though the videos were made by nonprofessionals, the content gained enough clout that one of Korea’s leading travel agencies, Hana Tour, offered an Instagram collaboration—proof that personal content can evolve into real industry partnerships.

In particular, the blend of practical travel tips and vivid cultural experiences has struck a chord with viewers. Critics and audiences alike view it as a fresh travel-content model that delivers both useful information and emotional resonance, not just simple documentation.

“I wanted to share how travel can broaden your perspective with as many people as possible,” Hwang said. “We’ll keep documenting and sharing cultures and experiences from different countries. My goal is for many peers and underclassmen to build memories together during college, and I hope students who dream of traveling find our content helpful.”

Kim Dong-han, head of the Department of Hotel and Aviation Management, called the project “an excellent example of turning major-related global experience into digital content,” adding that student-led content activities positively boost the university’s image and encourage a culture of taking on new challenges.
