[iNews24 reporter Han Seung-yeop] Wando County in South Jeolla Province has named Cheongsando, Asia’s first Slow City, its top pick for April as the canola flower season arrives. The county is rolling out a month of festivals and special perks to celebrate.

The county said on the 30th that starting April 1 it will host the month-long “Slow Walking Festival” under the theme “Heal on Cheongsando.”

Cheongsando feels like a living postcard, with pristine nature, stone-walled paths, and traditional gudeuljang rice paddies. In April, canola blooms blanket the island in yellow, and visitors can stroll the 42.195 km (about 26.22 miles) slow trail to fully savor the leisurely pace.

To attract tourists and boost the local economy, the county is running several promotions. First, under the “Wando: Twelve Months of Excitement” campaign, visitors who post a review on the county’s culture and tourism website after visiting Cheongsando will be entered into a draw to win local specialty products.

Also, from April 1 through May 31, Cheongsan Marine Healing Park is holding a “half‑price event”: present a receipt showing a payment of 50,000 KRW (about $37.50) or more at a local business to get park programs at a 50% discount.

The county is operating “Wando Healing Pay” through April to encourage out‑of‑town spending. Travelers who use local lodging or restaurants and meet certain conditions can receive up to 100,000 KRW (about $75.00) in Wando Clean Market points, which should help reduce travel costs.

During the festival, the county will host a variety of programs at key spots like Seopyeonje-gil and Beombawi-gil, including walking events, performances, and hands-on experiences. Check Wando County’s culture and tourism website for the full schedule.

A Wando County official said the canola blooms this year are more abundant than usual and will give visitors unforgettable spring memories, and encouraged people to visit Slow City Cheongsando in April to enjoy the many benefits and some well-deserved healing time.
