With the slogan “Catch the fun, taste Yeongdeok snow crab,” the festival left Haebarang Park visitors smitten by the flavor and flair of Yeongdeok’s famed snow crab.

The biggest changes this year were the layout and the event’s operating style. Organizers converted once-crowded, time-limited experiences into continuous morning-and-afternoon sessions, drastically reducing long wait times.

Central attractions—snow crab fishing, trap catching, and a crab-carrying dash—kept people captivated. Quick, high-energy games like “Catch a Yeongdeok Crab in 29 Seconds” were a hit with every age group and amped up the festival’s buzz.

Far from being just a consumption-driven fair, the festival became a model for supporting the local economy. Part of each activity fee was refunded as Yeongdeok Love vouchers, encouraging visitors to explore Ganggu Market and nearby shops.

A family attendee said the activities felt worth the cost—using the refunded vouchers for kids’ snacks and local specialties made the day feel even sweeter.

The festival’s secret weapon was the Price Monitoring Citizen Volunteer Corps. The county required vendors to post prices at their booths and empowered residents to monitor for unfair practices.

Those careful measures busted the myth that festival food is always overpriced and built trust with visitors. The county’s firm stance against price gouging put the finishing touch on the festival’s success.

Beyond the food, the festival deepened its cultural chops with an archival performance that traced Yeongdeok’s history—stirring pride among locals and moving visitors. Stage contests, from the Yeongdeok Crab Game to a snow crab-prep showdown, kept the energy soaring.

Kim Do-hyun, head of Yeongdeok County’s Cultural Tourism Division, said, “The Yeongdeok Snow Crab Festival is constantly evolving into a global marine food festival beyond North Gyeongsang Province. By the 30th edition next year, we’ll have even bolder programming to welcome visitors from around the world.”
