Good news for spring travelers: China’s side of Baekdu Mountain—known in China as Changbai Mountain and bordering North Korea—is offering free admission for the entire month of April.
On March 31, Jilin province’s official bulletin announced that, ahead of the Qingming holiday (April 4–6), the Changbai Mountain tourist area will roll out discounts and waive entrance fees for all domestic and international visitors from March 31 through April 30.
The waiver applies to entrance tickets for the mountain’s northern and western scenic areas. Those tickets normally cost 105 yuan (about 23,000 KRW, about $15).
Excluded from the waiver are the eco-friendly buses that run from the park entrance to the summit (85 yuan, about $12) and the tourist shuttle buses (19–35 yuan, about $3–$5).
Advance reservations are required to take advantage of the offer. The northern scenic area accepts up to 25,000 visitors per day, while the western area is capped at 5,000 daily.
