With spring in full swing, day-trippers flocked to the area around Okjeong Lake in Imsil County, North Jeolla Province, around 11 a.m. on the 11th. In front of the Okjeong Lake suspension bridge—site of the province’s final cherry blossom festival—petals drifted through the air, creating a picture-perfect moment. The cherry blossom road stretched nearly 10 km (about 6.2 miles), captivating weekend visitors.

Cherry trees lining the route to Okjeong Lake were in full bloom. While rain the day before had knocked some petals loose, the roadway still formed a stunning “cherry blossom tunnel” that drew plenty of oohs and ahhs. Visitors rolled down car windows to snap photos or pulled over to stroll beneath the canopy of blooms.

Kim, a visitor in his 30s from Jeonju, said, “I worried yesterday’s rain would strip a lot of the blossoms, but they still look full. On the way here, petals fell like rain, so I recorded it on video.”

Lee, in his 50s, who came from Seoul with friends, laughed, “The festival’s great, but the cherry trees along the drive were so pretty that I felt happy the moment we left home. We were busy taking photos together long before we reached the suspension bridge.”

On one side of the festival grounds, fans gathered to cheer for a popular trot singer. Small clusters held hand signs and light sticks emblazoned with supportive messages as they waited for the performance.

Park, in his 60s, said, “When I like a singer, I often go to local festivals. I’m excited to see my favorite artist up close, and since I can enjoy the cherry blossoms and a show, today’s going to be even more fun.”

Forecasters predicted daytime highs around 20°C (about 68°F) across North Jeolla Province.

Most of the province’s cherry blossom festivals are set to wrap up this weekend with events in Imsil County, Iksan City, and Gunsan City. After that, the spring season will roll on with the Gochang green barley field festival and the Jinan moss phlox festival, keeping the spring vibes alive.
