On Saturday, April 11—the second weekend of April—sunny spring weather drew crowds across the country as people came out to savor the season. Major parks and spring flower festivals were buzzing with families, couples and friend groups from early morning.

In North Jeolla Province, the area in front of the suspension bridge at Imsil’s Okjeong Lake, where the last cherry blossom festival took place, treated visitors to a stunning “flower rain,” with petals drifting down like snow.

A nearly 10 km (about 6.2 miles) stretch of cherry blossom road captivated weekend visitors. In spots where the branches formed a tunnel of blooms, people rolled down their car windows to breathe in the spring breeze or pulled over to snap photos beneath the fully opened trees.

A man surnamed Lee, in his 50s, who came from Seoul with friends, said the festival was lovely, but the cherry trees lining the route were so beautiful that they were taking pictures long before they arrived.

Yeonji Park in Naedong, Gimhae, was also packed with people enjoying the bright spring day.

Under a cloudless sky, waves of red, yellow and white tulips lined the walking paths, creating vivid, picture-perfect scenes that drew visitors in. People busied themselves snapping photos on their phones, while lawns and shady spots filled with groups spreading mats and enjoying packed lunches.

Kim Yong-jun, 42, who came with his child, smiled and said, “The weather was great, and seeing my child so happy makes me glad we came.”

Many tourists also flocked to the Suanbo Hot Spring Festival in Chungju for a different kind of spring experience. Visitors soaked their feet in warm spring water beneath roughly 1,000 cherry trees—some more than 40 years old—that were in full bloom.

One visitor said, “Soaking my feet in the hot spring while watching falling cherry blossoms made me feel like a celestial being,” adding that the pheasant-and-mountain-vegetable bibimbap they shared was excellent.

Other major spots in North Chungcheong were lively as well. By 2 p.m. that day, about 5,000 people had visited Cheongnamdae, the presidential villa—more than 1,500 more than the previous week. Hikers also continued to flock to Sogrisan and Woraksan National Parks, with roughly 300 to 400 more visitors than the week before enjoying spring hikes.

Gangwon Province brimmed with springtime visitors too.

In Chuncheon, people strolled cherry blossom paths near Gongjicheon to make memories. Visitors took paddle boats on the river or crossed the newly popular Chuncheon Saero 248 suspension bridge to savor the weekend.

The Gyeongpo Cherry Blossom Festival around Gyeongpo Lake in Gangneung drew massive crowds, and Cheongchoho Park and Sokcho Plaza also saw many tourists come to admire tulips in full bloom and share the spring vibe.
