Translation result2026 불암산 철쭉제 [Herald Economy=Senior Reporter Park Jong-il] Nowon District Mayor Oh Seung-rok kicked off the 2026 Bulamsan Azalea Festival on the afternoon of April 18 at Bulamsan Healing Town, releasing 1,500 butterflies with local residents to officially open the celebration.

Nowon’s signature spring event is in its fifth year and takes place on the Azalea Hill at Bulamsan Healing Town.

The festival draws thousands of visitors every year; last year, roughly 320,000 people attended over 13 days.

At the opening ceremony, organizers celebrated with a butterfly release. Mayor Oh and residents set 1,500 butterflies free — including cabbage white, large white, and yellow butterflies — to mark the start of the festival.

The lineup continued with street dance performances by Nowon’s youth, a drawing-and-circus show, and a traditional tightrope act, giving attendees plenty to watch. Colorful acts like a magic bubble show and wheel acrobatics will run on weekdays throughout the festival.

Across Healing Town, hands-on programs are available in spaces like the Butterfly Garden, the newly renovated Nowon Garden Support Center, and the Forest Healing Center, so visitors can dive deeper into the festival experience.

This year the organizers again set up an outdoor library across Healing Town. The Book Rest, the Café Forest lawn, and the picnic area have been transformed into cozy reading spots, offering picture-book readings, curated book selections, and other reading programs.

The 2026 Bulamsan Azalea Festival runs through April 26.

2026 불암산 철쭉제 Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “We prepared an even richer festival this year for everyone who came to enjoy spring. Wander through the azalea hill, soak up the season, and make special memories with the people you love.”
