Explore Central Inland: Join the ‘Mission Challenge Tour’ for Local Delicacies and Prizes!

Daniel Kim Views

Six central inland municipalities — Yeongju, Bonghwa, Danyang, Jecheon, Yeongwol, and Pyeongchang — are launching a Mission Challenge Tour to boost local tourism.

This joint tourism-marketing program, coordinated by six local governments along the borders of North Gyeongsang, North Chungcheong, and Gangwon provinces, invites travelers to visit regional attractions and complete fun missions. Participants can win local specialty products as prizes in this interactive event.

The challenge has six tiers based on how many regions you visit. Visit one region and you’ll receive 50,000 KRW (approximately $37.50); complete all six and you can earn up to 300,000 KRW (approximately $225.00) in local specialties.

The program is open to South Korean citizens. To join, submit your travel plan online at least one day before your trip. After completing your travels, apply online within seven days with verification photos, receipts, and a social media review.

Participants can mix and match the region’s standout sites and festivals to complete missions. Highlights include Yeongju’s Buseoksa Temple and Sosu Seowon; Bonghwa’s National Baekdudaegan Arboretum and Buncheon Santa Village; Danyang’s Dodamsambong and Mancheonha Skywalk; Jecheon’s Uirimji and the Cheongpung Lakeside Cable Car; Yeongwol’s Cheongryeongpo and the Korean Peninsula landform; and Pyeongchang’s Daegwallyeong Samyang Round Hill and the Balwangsan Cable Car.

A Yeongju city official encouraged people to join, saying the challenge tour offers a fun way to discover the diverse charms of the six central inland regions — and to bring home delicious local specialties.
