The CEN News / Reporter Lee Joo-sang | With May’s long holiday weekend on the horizon, families are turning their attention to Haenam and Jindo in South Jeolla Province.
Kid-friendly discounts, hands-on attractions, and peaceful natural retreats combine to make these destinations popular picks for family getaways.

Haenam’s Myeongnyang Marine Cable Car is running a special promotion for young visitors from May 1 through May 5.
During that window, preschoolers ride free and elementary school students get 50% off the regular fare.
Visitors who stop by the Dinosaur Festival first are given extra discount coupons, helping families save even more.
That means everyone in the family can take advantage of discounts or free rides on the cable car.
In Jindo, guests who book Sol Beach Jindo’s \”Island Sky Pass\” package receive one free cable car ticket per room. During the Children’s Day holiday, a preschool child and one adult can ride free together.
The package runs through the end of June, so families can still take advantage of it after the holiday.
The Myeongnyang Marine Cable Car is the nation’s first history-focused marine cable car, spanning the Uldolmok Strait. It’s praised for offering both tourism and educational value.
If you pair the ride with nearby stops—like the Naval Battle Memorial in Usuyeong, the Jindo Tower Myeongnyang Victory Memorial, and the MR Cinema—you’ll naturally pick up the history of Admiral Yi Sun-sin and the Battle of Myeongnyang as you explore.
Around Haenam and Jindo you’ll also find educational attractions, such as a dinosaur museum and a marine ecology center, along with nature-focused spots like Unlim Sanbang and Sani Garden—giving families plenty of options.
Local tourism officials say Haenam and Jindo are standing out as top family destinations for the Children’s Day holiday because they combine hands-on experiences, education, and relaxation. They expect visitor numbers to rise over the holiday period.
