Roughly 3.16 million people rode trains during the six-day May holiday.

Korail (Korea Railroad Corporation) reported on the 6th that about 3.16 million passengers traveled by train from April 30 through May 5.

About 1.97 million passengers took KTX high-speed trains (approximately 330,000 per day), while roughly 1.19 million rode conventional services like Saemaeul and Mugunghwa (about 200,000 per day), pushing the daily average above 530,000.

By day: ▷ April 30 — 521,000 ▷ May 1 — 576,000 ▷ May 2 — 577,000 ▷ May 3 — 539,000 ▷ May 4 — 495,000 ▷ May 5 — 455,000.

Notably, on Saturday the 2nd, KTX ridership reached about 367,000 and total rail ridership hit roughly 577,000 — both all-time highs.

Korail increased service to a total of 4,308 train runs over the holiday (2,202 KTX runs and 2,106 regular train runs).

It also made travel more convenient by offering package trips tied to depopulated areas and local festivals, selling discounted online seats, promoting festival train travel both online and offline, and providing Korail MaaS partner discounts (rental cars, food and beverage, and more).

\”We prepared thoroughly for the holiday surge in demand and were able to transport passengers safely despite record crowds,\” said Lee Min-seong, head of Korail’s customer marketing team. \”We will continue to deliver safe, convenient rail services.\”
